The story

Prohodna Cave is one of the best-known natural landmarks in the Karlukovo karst region of northern Bulgaria. The cave forms a large natural rock passage approximately 265 metres long. Its enormous interior reaches roughly 25 to 41 metres in height and is naturally illuminated through its entrances and openings in the ceiling. Its most recognizable feature is a pair of large, similarly shaped openings high above the cave floor. Seen from inside the cavern, they resemble two eyes looking down from the rock and have become popularly known as the “Eyes of God.” The scale of the cavern, dramatic limestone walls and unusual natural light create one of the most distinctive cave landscapes in Bulgaria.
